Hi everyone, and welcome. I’m, Kay Dee Royal, one of the authors of
Ravencraft’s Romance Realm. I’ve been looking forward to this Valentine’s Day
Blog Fest…hope you have, too.
Happy Valentine’s as we’re gearing up for the Biggest Romance Day of the year. And in the whole getting ready with a huge dose of building passion for the big event, Ravencraft’s Romance has selected some key elements to think about and possibly incorporate in your own personal celebration.
Yesterday’s theme, “First Sight,” posted by Charlene, begins our
journey toward a passionate romantic Valentine’s Day ;0)
Today, let’s
concentrate on “First Touch.”
I loved this topic as there are all kinds of feelings and emotions
involved in a “first touch,” and not just a touch by anyone, either. This touch
happens by someone with an inner connection as well, even if it isn’t understood
at the time of the physical contact, it’s definitely felt.
I truly believe this type of physical contact is what great romance
authors include in their stories, stimulating at a mind/consciousness level and
the subconscious/soul level, along with the physical attributes, of course, all
those wild & crazy sensations. *smile*
M-M-M-M…think back to the very first time it happened…the first
touch. That touch you wanted to seal up and remember for all time ~ the
electricity, sensation, warmth, those whipping sparks zipping and snapping
helter-skelter through every nerve-ending, every cell. You may have actually
taken a step back by the surprise of it, the impact on all of your systems
going into overdrive, sort of like being tilted side-ways, but still standing
on legs made of noodles. *LOL*
Okay, I’m describing my very first touch and it happened when the
boy grasped my hand in a spontaneous response of pulling me through a doorway.
He’d grabbed my hand to lead me inside my house, and his touch did all of those
things I described above and maybe even a few more things. *snicker*
There are all types of “first touches” responsible for zinging uncontrollable
shots through a body ~ a brush of arms, shoulders, hips, thighs, a finger whisking
away a tendril of hair from a cheek or a brow, a handshake, a quick hug, and
even a reactive save…as in One Plus One, my contemporary
erotica romance.
Here’s how Lacinda received her “first touch” from the hero of the
story, who she doesn’t know by name, yet…
“Lacinda Gainesly,” a steward called her
name. She saw the sign he held with her name printed in bright purple. She
slipped on the first step leading down onto the ship and stumbled past the
steward. The sign dropped from his fingers and his arms latched around her body
from behind. His quick reflexes saved her face from biting the deck, but his
hands cupped both of her breasts and squeezed. Lacinda threw her elbow back
into his side.
“Hey, a little respect for the guy
who saved your life.”
Lacinda shrugged out of his grasp. She
met his gaze and realized this was the same man who picked her up from her
hotel in a long black limo, only then he was dressed in black instead of the
white uniform he now wore.
“You’re the driver.”
“I’m a lot of things, like possibly a
hero.” His eyes looked as happy as his lips.
She noticed his smile, the same he
shared earlier when he asked her questions about why she took the cruise quiz. Lacinda
thought he was simply a driver for the cruise company so she shared some of her
story. He knew about Alex dying in a car crash on the way to their wedding. She
searched her memory for anything else she might have shared which could
embarrass her later.
“Alas fair maiden, your chambers
await your timely arrival,” he said faking a British accent. He held his gloved
hand out. Lacinda refused it.
“I’m ready for my quarters.” She
needed relaxation, maybe take a nice hot scented bath and get prepared for the
swing of things, anything to distract her from the past that never left her
alone.
“As you wish, my lady,” he said,
again with a British accent.
The steward turned, led her across
the deck and down a stairway. She saw men and women following other stewards or
each other. Once on board everyone began mingling, even flirting judging by the
tinkling female laughter and deep manly chuckles.
“There will be an announcement left
under your door regarding tonight’s dinner seating arrangements. May you enjoy
your day and make sure you take time for a relaxing massage. There’s always a
masseuse available. Their extension is listed beside your phone. You’ll find
your room key there as well.”
Lacinda followed him down a narrow
hallway until he stopped in front of a door with an elegantly scrolled number
216.
“This is you. May I answer any
questions before I go?”
Lacinda dug in her purse for a tip. Clueless
on how much was appropriate and not wanting to give him anything. He got his gratuity
when he copped a feel of her breasts.
“In case you’re rummaging for a
gratuity, don’t. No one on this cruise will be accepting anything extra. Monetarily
speaking,” he quickly added and winked.
He opened her door and stood back.
His mid-night blues stared at her for a suspended moment. Lacinda’s skin
tingled. He was either sizing her up for something, or undressing her for
something else.

Good Morning everyone and welcome to Ravencraft's Realm! It's looking like a great day to celebrate...well, party.
I've been looking forward to today...posting about 'First Touch' and wondering about everyone elses experiences.
We need to keep it PG-13...so keep tabs on the fun stuff (tee-hee)
Let me hear all about it and by leaving a comment you're elibible for my drawing (which will happen tomorrow and winner will be posted here...in the comments).
Leave your email addy so I can reach you...and Good Luck!
Now let's hear something from you all.
I remember the first touch with my hubby. We went out as a group of friends and he sat by me and before the night was over, he reached under the table and grabbed my hand. Oh, to be that young again.....lol. Thanks for the post, it brought back some great memories.
Hello Kimber - thanks for playing along...yes, to be that young again, although it's not bad with a skilled-with-maturity touch either *smile*
Kimber, please add your email so I can find you if you're the lucky winner in my drawing tomorrow. I'd hate to have you miss out on the opportunity.
So it definitely says something terrible about my memory that I can't remember, right? Although I had fun sorting through memories :) Thanks for the post!

Wow, I can't say that I remember a really special touch, like what happened with your character but I've certainly shared the eye thing with several of my past ex's
ringpop2010 at gmail dot com
It was on the first date I had with the gorgeous man who's now my husband. I climbed into the car and he puts his hand on my knee. Wow! It burned right through my jeans and scorched me! He flashes me this delicious smile and my heart starts singing and my brain says, oh crap, I'm in trouble...

It's so interesting to see how we've all used the topic in different ways. I've grown so tired of promoting my books, they didn't even come to mind when I used each individual "First_____" as fodder for my posts.
I enjoyed yours very much...almost as much as I'd enjoy that candy. *lol* I'm having fun following the blogfest.
What great memories came back when you shared yours, Kay Dee! Whisps and whips...right to the noodle legs and arms. Lol. So great!
Loved One Plus One. Yeah, Lacinda didn't have a chance. *wink*
Love your post, Kay Dee! How sweet. Writing the "first touch" in my books is always my guilty pleasure. I love playing cupid and making sure there are plenty sparks and warm feelings. :)
I'm trying to remember a real first touch story of my own...Thing is I'm usually the to make the first move while the guy blushes. Fearless that I am when it comes to men. Haha.
Hey - Francesca...no worries on the memory thing. Me being a romance writer...well, let's just say I have a tendency to embellish my memories *wink*
Hi Maria! Eye contact is everything...more than just the first thing...it can be a melter of will at any time. *LOL*
Dianne - Oh, yes, the scorching hand on knee...it makes me wonder if he had to orchestrate that whole move (grins)
Hi Ginger - HUGS!! I loved your post today...yesterday's also.
Hey Charlene...more hugs. Yeah, Lacinda really didn't have a chance, for more reasons than the 'steward'. *smile*
Hi Danielle...A-HA, that explains a lot when it comes to Damon Salvatore! You fearless minx...he never had a chance against you (I know...old grudge revived) tee-hee
My hubby is english and very unromantic so no dreamy 1st touch here however *whispers* just between you ladies, I was engaged before I met hubby to a tall, dark haired italian guy. Oh yeah, hubba hubba...anyway we met on my 19th birthday at a party an aunt threw for me. He leaned against the door frame and was talking to me, trying to keep me from entering the room that held my surprise birthday cake and presents. I was smitten right off the bat but the clincher? He reached out and brushed a lock of hair from my eyes, which he told me were beautiful and then asked if he could cook me a steak dinner sometime. (I hear all you ladies sigh!) Too bad the man I married hasn't a romantic bone in his body. That muse be why I write romance, a girl has to get her fix somehow you know... (;
Killarney...I can so relate to what your saying (as far as your un-romantic husband)...exactly the reason I write romance. LOL
Since I'm single, never been married, there have been a few "first" touches....most memorable was the first time he grabbed my hair for a kiss =)
Great question!
Great post!
I can't tell you about my first touch with my husband, but it involved the removal of clothes - for a photo shoot. No, not that kind of photo shoot. Well, it almost turned into that kind of....Oh, shoot me now! :)
Sandra
My first lovely touch was from a
boy that I had a crush on. We were
playing hide and seek at school
with friends. He touched my hand
when I was trying to hide. Was very
sweet. thanks for the great giveaway would love to snag your sweet swag.

Such a great post- and what a first touch! haha
I don't remember our first touch, but I remember him saying that he loved my bedroom eyes.Deb P
r.d1@myfairpoint.net
Hi DiDi...sounds like an alpha move *wink* Thanks for stopping by.
Sandra - my mouth dropped open! Now I'm giggling to beat the band! Silly girl.
Hi Vinci...what a sweet first...awwwe - Love it!
Hello WritersBlock - thanks for popping over...are you having fun on the Fest? Love you electrifying picture today. Made me laugh.
Deb...oh my, bedroom eyes, lovely. I'm more of a comic relief in bed...so silly, I wish I could do bedroom eyes. LOL
ARE you all having fun??
I'm having a blast...filled myself up with sugar (a ton of those candy hearts...soooo, I ate a lot of words and now I'm high on sugar). Geez, talk about difficulty staying focused...
Great post, Kay Dee. I remember my first touch with my hubby as being a handshake. Adding to it, the look he gave me with his laughing dark brown eyes...I'm sure I left a moist puddle in the palm of my hand pressed against his!
In my book, Heavenly Lover, since she is in angel form when they first meet, he is able to walk through her, and dry his nekked body off with a towel he reaches through her to get off the wall she's leaning on. That first touch comes quite unexpectedly, and is forbidden.
Is it wrong I have so many first touches I can't narrow them down. LOL I loved the excerpt. Made me want to buy it immediately
Hello Everyone...I've got the two winners from the 2-9 First Touch Post drawing
